Although this center was newly established over one year ago, it has organized 10 classes with 30 young students aged from 6 to 15, who come from different primary and secondary schools in Hanoi. Members of each class are divided into groups of 2 to 5. The Australian professional coach Tony Maloney said: “The reason we have divided students into groups is to help them learn about team spirit and supportive skills among golfers.”

Each lesson package includes 10 lessons with both theory and practice. It is different with traditional theory in which teachers give lessons and students just listen and take note, students will learn theory through exciting visual videos. Videos give students situations in playing golf. Due to this, the students can learn many things such as how to hold clubs or how to use a putter to make the ball get into the hole. Moreover, through each video, the coach will give explanations on etiquettes in practicing as well as in competitions such as keeping quiet when a player is preparing to hit his ball, not shouting but only holding hands for congratulations when the other players win. Instead of going to board for answering questions about previous lessons like traditional methods, students will review videos which recorded the process of their practice. Therefore, members in a class can both give comments on each other and find out their improvement in comparison with the previous time. Besides, students will watch funny videos about famous national and international golfers in practice and in competitions.
At the end of the lessons, the coach holds competitions among members of the class. Presents for winners are colorful golf balls. Especially, because the teacher is a foreigner, students can improve their English through comfortable conversations with the teacher without fear of low marks. The teacher corrects students’ English mistakes and students help him strengthen his Vietnamese ability. Thus, golf classes are always exciting, funny and relaxing but not stressful.

Nguyen The Truong Giang, a student of grade 5 at Thanh Cong A primary school in Hanoi, told enthusiastically about the process of coming to golf: “At first, I just followed my father to look. However, after watching my father’s beautiful and attractive shots and finding out that many other kids were playing, I tried to hit. Surprisingly, I got excited and became addicted to golf.” Although his house in Trung Hoa Nhan Chinh is far from driving range, Giang often insists on being taken by his parents for his practice even in hot or rainy weather. Leaving his closed room with the computer and various games, Giang chose for himself golf courses to mix with the nature as well as to improve his physical strength. Proud of Giang when he became a potential young golfer of the center, Ms Nguyen Thanh Van, Giang’s mother shared: “He has not only learned golf at class, but also practiced his movements with his father at home. Since he learned golf, he has become more quiet and mature. Also, he has been more patient and conscious of his study as well as daily activities.”

Along with Giang, Vo Bach Duong, grade 6 at a secondary school which belongs to Russian embassy in Viet Nam, is also a many-year golfer. Together with her father to learn golf since she was just 4 years old. In spite of her female gender, Duong is still a redoubtable competitor in competitions. Duong said: “Learning golf is not too difficult as long as you are patient and concentrate on it.” Golf is not an antagonistic sport. Opponents of golfers are themselves. Each competition is a self-competition. Therefore, playing golf does not require fast reactions but requires calm, intelligence, exact guess and good imagination. Golf is a noble and the unique sport in which players never need a referee. Golfers make score cards for themselves. Because they play for self-assertion, they never cheat or get scores by fraud. In addition, when a golfer is preparing to hit a ball, people keep quiet around him. Golf environment, which is connected with the nature such as green grass fields, beautiful lotus ponds, always brings players peaceful atmosphere and helps them relax after their working and studying hours.
